Swimming provision

In-line with our current risk assessment, swimming will restart for pupils in Spring 2022.

Logistically and financially it is not possible for every class to swim every term and every year. This year all classes in year 5 and 3 will swim for a term (7 weeks). Approximately 300 children get structured swimming lessons with each class split into four groups based on ability to maximize the full swimming lesson.

When children arrive from our feeder infant school only 2% can swim, aided with floats. Children are not very confident in the water and require teacher support in the water to gain confidence and improve their swimming. Therefore 1 or 2 members of staff actively teach swimming in the water every week.

Schools can choose to use the Primary P.E. and Sport Premium to provide additional provision for swimming but this must be for activity over and above the national curriculum requirements. Have you used it in this way?
